Coleen Swettman / Educator Brother

Coleen Swettman grew up with fabric in her hand and sewing in her heart. Over
the years, she has been involved in and excelled at every type of sewing
including garment construction, home dec, quilting, and crafting. She fell in
love with machine embroidery and purchased one of the first Brother
sewing/embroidery machines. Since that purchase she has owned or worked with
most of the machines that Brother has manufactured for home use. |
After college, she taught school for many years and completed extensive work
towards a Masters degree in Education. She has combined her love of teaching
with her love of sewing. With this extensive background in education, she is
able to break down some of the more complex topics into a step by step approach
that is easy to understand. With over fifteen years of experience teaching
digitizing and small business operations, she has lectured on these and many
other subjects for sewing machine dealers across the country.
As the owner of a Custom Embroidery business, she understands the day-to day
problems that small business operator face and how to make the business a
success. “It is always a challenge to turn a logo into stitch format and then
apply it to a finished product. The real reward is the look on a satisfied
She has loved to quilt since her childhood days when she helped her grandmother.
She has been involved with her local quilt guild for many years and was honored
as the featured artist of the year with a one woman show.
She has extensive experience teaching classes in digitizing embroidery design.
She truly enjoys sharing her sewing experience to help the beginners learn and
enjoy the craft, and to help advanced sewers learn and master new techniques.
She once told a group of first-time sewers, “I’m the best teacher you will ever
have because I have already made all of the mistakes there are to make.”
Coleen lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and dog. Much of her
“free” time is spent making things for her grandchildren, and digitizing custom
logos. She is a part of the Education Team for Brother International.
